Liam Halewood is one of the UK’s most dynamic and in-demand tribute performers, best known for his acclaimed impersonations of Boy George. Celebrated for his powerhouse vocals, commanding stage presence and unmistakable flair, Liam has spent the past decade lighting up theatres, hotels, show bars and live entertainment venues across the UK and internationally. His headline show, It’s a Miracle: The Boy George Celebration, has earned him a devoted and ever-growing fanbase.
Beyond his Boy George tribute, Liam is a versatile entertainer who connects with audiences across generations, performing everything from 1950s and 60s classics to modern hits. He has appeared on television, including Channel 4’s Naked Education, where he spoke candidly about cosmetic procedures, and has performed at major national events, including the Kings & Queens of Rock, Pop & Roll Show at Central Pier. Next up, Liam will step into another iconic role this December, playing the Lion in The Wizard of Oz at the historic Morecambe Winter Gardens.
Before his tribute career truly took off, Boy George’s brother Kevin O’Dowd reached out to Liam and handmade his now-famous red hat – a very special moment that still means the world to him. Soon after, Boy George himself followed Liam on Twitter and shared footage of him performing in Lytham St. Annes. “That was the catalyst,” Liam says. “Everything took off from that point.”
Liam has always credited George for paving the way for LGBTQ+ performers like him. While he once experimented with cosmetic treatments to more closely resemble his idol, he’s clear today that his performance—not mimicry—fills venues. “I’m proud of what I do now. People come to see me.”
In September 2025, Liam was crowned Best Regional Tribute Act for the North West and Midlands at the National Tribute Awards — an achievement he never expected, but one that confirmed just how far he’s come. Add to that a dramatic three-and-a-half stone weight loss to improve stamina and stage presence, and it’s clear Liam is an artist in constant evolution.

Over the years, he has shared stages with the likes of Joe Longthorne, Charlotte Dawson and Frank Carson, but one of his most treasured memories is dancing with Sheridan Smith after performing at the James Bulger Memorial Trust Ball, where he is an ambassador. “I adore her,” he says. “She’s unbelievably talented, but still so grounded. She never forgets where she came from.”
Before finding his calling as Boy George, Liam performed as a drag queen and even as an Alan Carr impersonator. “People would shout ‘Chatty Man!’ across the room,” he laughs. “I never knew whether to wave back or offer them a drink!”
Liam proposed to his partner, Michael Hopkins, live on Loose Women, with Michael sitting unsuspectingly in the audience — a moment of romance and drama. But earlier this year, at their gold-themed engagement party, Michael turned the tables with a surprise Liam will never forget: the gift of a hair transplant.

Despite his onstage confidence, Liam’s hair loss had long been a private frustration. “I was almost completely bald,” he admits. “And I’m such a hairy man everywhere else. I’d think, why is there hair on my chest, arms and legs… but none on my head? It felt cruel!”
At the Valentine’s-themed engagement party, guests gathered around a red-carpet photo booth. “I was posing in a wig like I was auditioning for RuPaul’s Drag Race: Blackpool Edition,” Liam laughs. Then Michael delivered a heartfelt speech about Liam’s struggles with hair loss. A gold envelope, tied to a gold balloon, floated into view. “It was like the gay Oscars,” Liam recalls.
In July 2025, Liam arrived at the world-renowned Wimpole Clinic in London’s Harley Street medical district (famed for performing hair transplants for high-profile figures including England cricket captain Ben Stokes and the former Arsenal footballer Rob Holding), feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves. “I was worried it would hurt, or that it wouldn’t look how I imagined,” he admits. “But honestly, I needn’t have worried at all.”

The procedure involved transplanting 2,700 grafts from his donor area to restore his hairline and took most of the day. “I was there for hours, but it was surprisingly calm,” Liam says. “I even fell asleep during parts of it.” His medical team kept him relaxed throughout. “I was chatting and singing Karma Chameleon, then the next thing I knew I was waking up, and they were already well into it.”

While the procedure itself was pain-free, the recovery tested his patience. “The itching in the first few days was horrendous,” he laughs. “That was the hardest part. You’re desperate to scratch, but you know you absolutely can’t.” Sleeping upright, following strict aftercare instructions and using a saline spray helped him through the early healing phase, and within days the discomfort began to ease.

Now, almost six months on, the transformation is already visible — and confidence-boosting. “The regrowth is fabulous,” Liam says. “I’ve got a proper hairline again. People keep telling me I look ten years younger. Just imagine what I’ll look like on my wedding day.”
Liam and Michael will marry in February 2026 in Blackpool, with all the drama, flair and sparkle you’d expect. Stealing the spotlight will be their beloved puppy, Colin — a Shih-poo (Shih Tzu–poodle mix) who will proudly act as ring bearer. “He’s the absolute love of our lives,” Liam says. “If he steals the show, I won’t mind. He steals our hearts every day.”
Their honeymoon will be a flamboyant Las Vegas extravaganza.
With his confidence restored and hairline back, Liam is thinking big. “With my new hair, I’d love to do I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” he laughs. “I’m afraid of nothing. Coffins, insects, snakes – throw it all at me. I’d give them fabulous TV.”
For Liam, the transplant was never about vanity; it was about feeling like himself again. “My world is showbiz. Image matters,” he says. “I wanted to look my best before turning 40.” And now? “I feel incredible. Confident. More me than ever.”
Now six months on and delighted with the results, Liam is counting down to his wedding feeling confident, camera-ready and more himself than ever.
