The Symington’s (of Hambledon Wine Estate – the Hampshire-based birthplace of English wine) are Anglo-Portuguese in heritage and are opening their first Portuguese venue this September. Picking the Portuguese – if not European – place of the moment – Porto – to house Matriarca, a new port and wine members club concept housed in a three-storey renovated townhouse.

Designed by ex Soho House designer, James Thurston, it includes a 40 cover restaurant – under the direction of Head Chef Pedro Lencastre Monteiro; a cellar door tasting room; wine academy; and cocktail rooftop bar. The concept is about bringing back the time rich supper club style gatherings and appealing to the next generation of wine/ port lovers.
